Donation of the bust of Galileo Galilei to the province of Benevento
Donation of the bust of Galileo Galilei to the province of Benevento
A Carrara marble bust of Galileo Galilei, the “Observer of the skies”, represents a symbol of appreciation for the work that the local public administration has done to value the Samnite cultural expressions. The artwork was donated by the Fondazione Romualdo Del Bianco – Life Beyond Tourism to the Provincia di Benevento, with the collaboration and promotion, on the organizing level, of the Samnium Proloco di Benevento and its President Giuseppe Petito. The ceremony of unveiling of the bust was held in October 12, at 4.30 pm, with the participation of the President of the Foundation Paolo Del Bianco, Claudio Ricci and Giuseppe Petito. The artwork, realized by the artist Dino De Ranieri from Pietrasanta (Lu), has become part of the collection of the Museo del Sannio di Benevento, that reunites historical finds of all times, and is located in the Virgilio hall.
The president of the Florentine Foundation, Paolo Del Bianco, had the idea of making this tribute to the city after he came to know and appreciate the work of the Province of Benevento for the protection of the identity of the territory: this is why the subject of the artwork is Galileo Galilei, the Observer of the Skies, «whom, looking far away – explains Paolo Del Bianco – far ahead of what is possible, facing the difficulties, traced a path that led to progress for the growth of the community; this is a precious quality for those who are part of a local administration».
The meeting with the samnite culture happened in the occasion of the “StregArti – Premio Arco di Traiano” organized by the Association for the Samnium Touristic Promotion of Benevento and under the patronage of the municipality of Benevento, directed by Eraldo Vinciguerra. In that occasion the President Paolo Del Bianco was awarded in the Culture & Tourism section, receiving the award from the Mayor Clemente Mastella. «It is a thank you to the province of Benevento and to the other museums that are cultural centers, like the Museo Arcos and the Museo del Sannio, for their hospitality – explains president Del Bianco – and the aim is to applaud that sense of belonging and identity of the territory that is easily perceived by the visitor. The citizens, guided by the local administraion, know how to value this culture, with love and dedition».
